Urban Legends Part II

Urban Legends Part II

Greencastle

So, the Quest team went paranormaling this past weekend.  It was a blast.  The places we went had lots of great stories associated with them worth checking out.  We picked two places out there as the journey between locations on the back country roads was quite long.

So, we hit a covered bridge first.  The short story goes that a girl would swim by it all the time and the parents would come there and honk three times and she would come to the car and they would go home.  The ghost story is that you can go there at night, park on the bridge, honk three times and she’s supposed to get in your car.

The Covered Bridge

We tried this first during the day (early evening) with digital camera in the car with EMF and people on either side of the bridge with digital audio and EMF.  For this first attempt, we did not get anything.  But, it was fun.  We decided that since the “report” mentioned doing this at night, we’d hit the second location and then come back later.

Side note:  Jenn has a new app on her iPhone called a “Ghost Radar” and it’s pretty cool.  Probably not real, but pretty cool.  It looks like a radar off a plane and blips show up where an “anomaly” is, but the coolest part is that is has one of those voice things on it.  You know, where it takes the energy around the area and forms words.  Like Ghost Adventures uses.  This came in handy a few times.

We proceeded to the second location.  Boone Hutchinson Cemetery where Daniel Boone’s family is buried and there’s a cave with hanging coffins…  I was excited about this one.  It was dark by the time we got there with just a hint of light over the horizon.  We first took a walk around the cemetery to get a feel for it.  First thing we noticed was the sky.  It was beautiful.  You could see almost every star in the sky and even some of the milky way.  Very peaceful.  Anyway – back to the good stuff…  We broke out the new toy and let our guide (Shem – yes, that’s his real name) walk around with it.  After a few blips and whatnot, it gave the name “Frank”.  Well, in looking down at the gravestone where he was standing, there was someone buried there named – you guessed it – Frank.  We decided to take some pictures and do some EVP work while we were there.  Heck, why not, right?  I bent down with my camera and said, “Hey Frank, why don’t you get closer to them and I’ll take a picture of all of you”.  Right at that moment, as I was pressing the button on my camera, Jenn blurted out, “something just moved right next to him (Shem)”.  In reviewing the photos, there is something weird right next to his arm.  I took many other photos, but didn’t get the same result in any of them.

In looking for the caves, we noticed a small fence (with barbwire) around the area where the entrance is supposed to be.  There’s also an old mans house that sits on the property and it’s said that he will not like it if you just go in.  So, we’re going to get permission and set up a time again to go back out.  There’s also another location called “Hell’s Gate” that we’re going to visit on our next venture out there.  So, we walked around more and enjoyed the beautiful weather and clear sky for a while before deciding to head back to the covered bridge to finish our “ghost girl” investigation.

Hitting a gas station and a potty break along the way, we finally make it back to the bridge.  As we get there, we run into 3 locals that were drinking and a kid with a shotgun…  Yes, the kid had the shotgun.  There was apparently a hayride going through and they wanted to climb into the bridge and scare them as they went through while the kid fired shots into the air.  Sounds safe, right?  Well, we waited for all this to go down before starting our second attempt at getting the ghost girl in the car.  Luckily, it only took about 15 more minutes of them playing around and us ducking to make sure we didn’t get shot for that to end.  We then proceeded our quest.

First, we placed members at certain points on the bridge with equipment.  Second, we set up a night vision camera in the car with us – along with an EMF detector.  There was equipment everywhere.  Tobin and Pamela took the first trip onto the bridge.  We turned the headlights off (to discover it was totally pitch black in front of us) and honked the required three times.  We waited patiently for a few minutes and then honked again.  Before driving back off the bridge, a team member asked us to honk again.  They asked because they heard something strange each time we did that, but it didn’t happen the third time.  We next put Shem and Amie in the car and had them try the legend (hey, maybe the ghost girl didn’t like us and might like them)…  They tried the same and even went and turned the car around and tried it the other way.  This resulted in nothing.  After our “investigation” was complete, we did have two other cars drive up and do the same test while we were there.  I have a feeling that this has been done many times over and will continue to serve as an urban legend for years to come.

The only weird thing that happened was that we did hear a whisper of Jenn’s name pretty clearly and it wasn’t any of us.  Jenn is going to check her audio and see if she got it, but it was clear.  So, are there any ghosts at the bridge???  We don’t know, but it was fun.

Jenn Shortly After Hearing Her Name

The night was still early and we wanted to find another location.  There was a cemetery from the early 1800′s right down the road that we decided to go to.

We drove there with no hopes or stories in mind – just some paranormal investigators looking for paranormal fun.  This place was fun.  The “talk box thing-a-ma-jig” on Jenn’s phone gave us some pretty clear words that we could put together with the graves we were at.  We also had some strange moans and sticks breaking pretty close to us.  That could have been anything, but the investigators inside us tried to decipher that moan for quite a while.  Sounded like an old man in pain ———— or a cow.

We’re going to review audio soon and then we’ll have a complete picture, but all in all, it was a great time and we might have a little evidence out of it.
